How things have unfolded since about a quarter back has been quite curious. I managed to sneak a decent position, along with it a decent pay at a company that I had hoped would do great things over the next couple of years (spoiler alert: it won’t). My trusted M1 Macbook Pro (yes, with Touch Bar), did not survive the travels my daughter and I have made to Cebu in the latter days of July, days after I have published my last write up. I have employed my first virtual assistant, more for personal projects that I am working for rather than outsourcing client tasks. On top of all of this, I am still single.
But hey, at least there’s progress, or so I thought, I guess.
Let’s start with some of the ups first. The last quarter of the year poses some exciting times ahead for me. I have plenty of travels ahead, and plenty of talks to engage with at. There’s WordCamp Sydney with two almost 1 full day layovers in Singapore, followed back-to-back by a quick escapade to Hong Kong. (Airline schedule permitting, I will end up having been to 3 countries within 12 hours).
That’s not all in terms of travel. Malaysia is on the cards as well. This will be followed by a few days in Bangkok, Thailand somewhere mid November. Followed by my usual Davao-Manila-Cebu shenanigans. Anyways, I’ll get into more detail about my traveling in a separate post of mine.
The Omnipresence in the WordPress Community + more engagements outside of it
I have been engaging in more talks in the WordPress Community than ever before. Aside from talking at WordCamp Sydney and heading for WordCamp Malaysia, I have also had a session at WordCamp Cebu last August 2024. Last weekend, I also spoke at the WordPress Manila September Meetup revolving around the topic of community and community growth within the local scene here in the Philippines. It’s a topic that I plan to bring to the WordPress Meetup in Cagayan de Oro on the 12th as well. There’s also WordPress Iligan that will host an event on October 5, 2024, but I don’t think I can make it all the way to Iligan, having just arrived from my Davao-Manila-Cebu-Davao escapade of the last 6 days. (it’s October 2 as I write this now). There’s also a non-WordPress talk I had in Malita, where I pushed Pinoy Teen’s advocacy to continuously educate the Pinoy Teen about reproductive health and curb teenage pregnancy. I hope that, that one talk was just one of many more to come where I can address this topic. Later on in the month, I will also be speaking at another school here in Davao about Human Resources. It will focus on how to conduct interviews, what to look for in interviews, and how to ace interviews themselves. The talk basically hits two birds with one stone, allowing graduating students of Human Resources the opportunity to land a job and get a head start on how to do interviews once they are part of our workforce.
Update: October 15
Well, I forgot the downsides that I was planning to write about, maybe some other time. Haha.
