WordCamp Asia 2025

Georg Kevin · May 1, 2025 · Leave a Comment

I have to preface this that I was lowkey forced to buy a ticket for WordCamp Asia during a WordPress Meetup in CDO (in a good way, hahaha). I booked an event ticket without even having a flight ready and whatnot. Yes. I am crazy. But WordCamp Asia was crazier.

I arrived in Manila a day before Day 0 or what was known as Contributor’s Day. It’s quite refreshing to not have any care about what’s going on because I was neither a speaker, volunteer, nor organizer for this event. I sat on the sidelines watching everything unfold. So yeah, going back to my arrival. I arrived in the morning of the day prior, and I arrived around the same time a fellow WordPress enthusiast from Mindanao (Iligan) arrived as well. As fate would have it, he took me in and I ended up staying with him for the entirety of my WordCamp Asia stay. I guess it does pay off traveling to Iligan/Cagayan for their meetups.

Contributor Day at WordCamp Asia 2025 was a blast. I’ve talked to so many people that I have met across my over a decade tenure in the WordPress space. Many of the connections were actually rather fresh and were people that I have met at WordCamp Sydney 2024, when I was speaking there.

Other than that, another rather unique and important (re)connection that I have made was with a WordPress enthusiast that I knew from since the beginning of time. Cha was a ‘blogger’ friend of mine when I was still blogging on pinoyteens.net. And that’s like over 15 years ago already! On top of all the folks from Australia, I also connected with the local community as well. Time after the Contributor Day was crazy, and so was basically every single night during this year’s Asia flagship WordPress event. Time passed by like a blur. And maybe I have had a drink or two too many at some occasion.

Nonetheless, WordCamp Asia 2025 was a very fruitful networking event of sorts for me. I didn’t really get to any sessions, but luckily, you can find them online anyways. Which is probably one of the reasons why I was confident in just networking and connecting with the attendees.

Fast forward to my crazy journey towards Nepal and of course to WordCamp Nepal 2025… Well, let me put it on a different post instead. :p
